Very Choice & Scarce fully signed & issued with a serial number.
April 10 , 1778 "FIVE SHILLINGS" South Carolina Colonial American Currency Note.
A superior example for the grade with superb eye-appeal.
Very conservatively graded & certified by PCGS BANKNOTE as XF45, the the look of a much higher grade. No problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes either.
Four full borders and darkly inked on bright finely laid paper.
The "Phoenix" emblem is very boldly printed
, while the "blank" back is nice and clean without any contemporary writing.
Bold 4-digit serial number 7356 written in a reddish brown ink with equally bold signatures of William Mathews and Henry Crouch.
An authentic & historical item that was printed in 1778 and issued during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), less than 2 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in July of 1776.
