    Description

For sale is a lovely, original dated September 26, 1778 Continental Colonial Currency note for forty dollars. Bill features a vignette of the All-Seeing Eye of Providence shining on thirteen stars. On the other side is a woodcut of carrot leaves. Verso "Forty dollars" at the top, and "printed by Hall and Sellars. 1778." Front:
"The UNITED STATES" along top and bottom borders. "Continental Currency" along left and right borders. It reads:"Forty Dollars. This BILL entitles the Bearer to receive Forty Spanish Milled Dollars , or the Value thereof in Gold or Silver , according to a Resolution passed by CONGRESS , at Philadelphia , Sept. 26th, 1778." It is signed, but it is hard to make the signature out "Rowan"? "Bowan"? (see photo).
    Serial number: 6717.
    Nice piece of history!
