    Description

    NJ-183 "VeryRare" PCGS XF40 £6 Mar. 25, 1776 New Jersey Colonial Currency
    Rare with Superb eye-appeal
March 25, 1776 "SIX POUNDS" New Jersey Colonial Note. Only 3,125 of these 6 Pound
    notes
were originally printed. By far the smallest printing total of all of the March 25, 1776 denominations.
Rare, very popular, and always in demand.
    David Rittenhouse
as a young man in 1776, engraved the decorative boarders of the 6 pound note and inscribed his last name in tiny letters into this border at the left front edge (see photo of enlarged paper copy that was included with this item, and I will of course include same said paper copy along with the note itself for your records). As time passed, and after he matured a bit,
he became the First Director of The United States Mint in 1792.
Very conservatively graded & certified by PCGS as XF40, with the look of a much higher grade. Graded by PCGS years ago as part of the Midnight Ride Collection, and very likely undergraded by today's standards. There are just minimal signs of light circulation. This note looks to be at least choice about uncirculated to my eyes, and I have owned and sold a half dozen of these over the years.
Absolutely no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes either.
    The thick ragpaper itself is
    watermarked "NEW JERSEY"
when held upto a light source (see photo).
    Deeply embossed ragpaper
that is darkly inked in red, blue, and black.
Bold 5-digit serial number 1269, along with three equally bold signatures of Robert Smith, Jonathan Johnston, and John Smyth.
Authentic & historical item printed and issued in our nation's birthyear of 1776 during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), just a few months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the 4th of July.
