Description
Rare & Choice
January 14, 1779 "FIFTY DOLLARS" Continental Colonial Currency Note.
Very Conservatively Graded & certified by PMG as Choice About New AU58, with superb eye-appeal. There are no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes.
Colorful serial number and signatures. Darkly inked on both sides including the interesting
2-
color emblem of "a stepped pyramid of 13 levels representing the strength and unity of the 13 colonies"
along with the Latin motto PERENNIS, "everlasting". The paper itself is
watermarked "CONFEDE RATION" on two lines
when candled from behind (see last photo).
Attractive & Bold 6-digit serial number 117177 in red ink
, along with the equally bold signatures of Daniel Wister (in dark brown ink), and that of Robert Caither (in dark red ink).
This is an authentic & historical item that was printed & issued in 1779 during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), less than a three years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
