Choice & Highest Graded
January 14, 1779 "Thirty-Five Dollars" Continental Colonial Currency Note.
Conservatively graded & certified by PCGS as Very Choice New CU64
. This note has excellent eye-appeal. Absolutely no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes either.
PCGS has graded (63) examples of a CC-94 over the last 15 years, with (8) of those being apparent graded with problems. Of the remaining (55) problem-free notes, (6) of those are Uncirculated and are graded as: CU60, CU63, (2) at CU63PPQ,
CU64 (this note offered here)
, and a CU64PPQ.
PMG has graded (66) examples of a CC-94 to date (both net & problem-free). Only (3) of those are Uncirculated and are graded as: (3) at CU63, and a single note at CU64EPQ.
This PCGS CU64 is tied with (2) others as the Highest Graded examples of a CC-94 of both PCGS & PMG grading services combined.
Darkly inked on both sides with four full borders, and this note is nicely centered for a continental.
Reflective mica chips (3 large pieces can be seen on the front right side) were placed onto the surfaces of this note to deter counterfeiting. Also, this paper is watermarked "
CONFEDE RATION
" on two lines when held upto a light source (
see attached photo
). This also was used as an anti-counterfeiting device.
Clear 5-digit serial number 94053 in light red ink as is the signature of Robert A. Roberts, while the bold signature of John Leacock is written in dark brown ink below.
This is an authentic & historical item that was printed and issued in 1779 during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), and less than three years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
