    Description
    Very Choice & Scarce
February 26, 1777 "FIVE DOLLARS" Continental Colonial Currency Note. A much more scarce issue date! The Continental Congress was forced out of Philadelphia in the early days of 1777 because of advancing British forces, so Baltimore was chosen as a temporary seat of government, and the continental notes were issued from this city only for this one issue date of Feb. 26, 1777.
Very conservatively graded & certified by PCGS as AU53 PPQ (Premium Paper Quality), with the look of a much higher grade.
    ex: John J. Ford Collection.
Darkly inked on both sides with absolutely no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes. Well-centered with full borders on all four sides. Thick blue threads can be seen embedded into the ragpaper itself, while reflective mica flakes lie on top. Colorful serial number & signatures.
Bold 5-digit serial number 57187 in red ink as is the signature of James Walker. while the signature of Horatio Johnson is written in dark brown ink.
This is an authentic & historical item that was printed in 1777 and issued during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), just a few months after the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
