Scarce and Very Choice
February 17, 1776 "SEVEN DOLLARS" Continental Colonial Currency Note.
Very conservatively graded & certified by PMG as XF40, with the look of a higher grade.
Nice eye-appeal for the grade with colorful serial number and signatures. Darkly and boldly inked on both sides
.
Bold 5-digit serial number 40524 in dark red ink, along with the equally bold signatures of Adam Hubley and Joel Evans.
Adam Hubley,
(1740-1793) was commissioned as a Major in the 10th Pennsylvania Regiment in 1776. He rose in rank to Lieutenant Colonel in 1779 and commanded the 11th Pennsylvania Regiment until 1781. As a politician, Adam Hubley was a member of the Pennsylvania Assembly from 1783-1789. He died in Philadelphia of yellow fever during that deadly disease's east coast epidemic of 1793 that took the lives of at least 5,000 residents of Philadelphia, which was about 10% of its population of 50,000. Many of Adam Hubley's correspondence letters to & from George Washington still exist and are a "snapshot" into the history of that time period.
This is an authentic & historical item that was printed and issued in our nation's birth year of 1776 during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), just a couple months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence on the 4th of July, 1776.
