    Description

    CC-12 ** PCGS BANKNOTE AU55 PPQ ** Nov 29, 1775 Continental Colonial Currency
High Grade, Scarce & Very Choice
November 29, 1775 "TWO DOLLARS" Continental Colonial Currency Note.
The denomination is a much more scarce note in this issue date, and for that matter, in all continental currency issues as well.
Very Conservatively graded & certified by PCGS BANKNOTE as AU55 PPQ (Premium Paper Quality).
This is One of the Finest Known.
Though PCGS BANKNOTE has not yet published there population data, we can look at PMG's pop report for the CC-12 notes they have graded in the last 15+ years. They have not graded any CC-12 as Uncirculated to date, and they have given a grade of AU58 or AU58 EPQ to just (4) different examples. This AU55 PPQ from PCGS BANKNOTE example should be "right there" as far as being considered "one of the finest known".
    Superb eye-appeal
with no problems of any kind, and there are no pin holes. Very darkly inked on both sides with all text & details being crisp. The thick paper itself is deeply embossed, and contains reflective mica chips on the surfaces along with thick blue threads that are embedded into the ragpaper itself. The mica chips and the different colored threads were done on purpose as an attempt to deter counterfeiting by both the British and by local "home-grown" colonial counterfeiters.
One very large mica chip is easily seen above "A. Morris Jr.'s" signature. See last photo which was taken at an angle to show the reflective mica chip(s).
Bold 5-digit serial number 45612 in dark "blood red" ink
, along with equally bold signatures of Anthony Morris Jr. (in dark brown ink), while the second signature is that of Frederick Kuhl (In red ink).
    Frederick Kuhl,
was born in Philadelphia in 1729. In 1752, at Philadelphia's Christ Church, Frederick Kuhl married Susanna Hillegas (1733-1769), sister of Michael Hillegas, first treasurer of the United States. During the American Revolution, Frederick Kuhl was listed in 1775 as a member of the Board of Managers at Carpenters' Hall and of the Committee of Inspection. In 1776 he was a member of Philadelphia's Committee of Safety and of the Constitutional Convention
    .
    Anthony Morris Jr.,
a Major in the Philadelphia Light Horse Troop (America;s first cavalry unit) which served as General George Washington's bodyguard in various war campaigns from 1776 through 1777. Anthony Morris Jr, died on January 3, 1777 from wounds received during the Battle of Princeton. He was a member of the famous American colonial patriot "Morris Family" of which many members were deeply involved in the revolution both politically, economically, and on the battlefield.
Friedberg lists a value of 0 for a CC-12 in XF45 PPQ condition and ,000 for a same note in CU62 PPQ. This AU55 PPQ example should be worth somewhere between those two prices, the average of the two being ,375
    .
An authentic & historical item that was printed and issued in 1775 during the Revolutionary War (1775-83), a little over a year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
