    Description

Believed to be cloth type material and being a 6 pence note dated April 25, 1776 - The year of our independence from Great Britain. Nearly 250 years old as is our nation in 2026. It is amazing that it even exists still and is still intact with no holes nor tears. Edges are slightly worn. See pics for your grade but I would give it a fine/very fine grade as it is quite legible front and back. Folds visible per pics.
In researching Benjamin Betterton, I find only that he was born in approx. Dec.,1737 and died approx.1792 - not long after signing of these notes. He married Rebecca Harvey and they had 10 children. One of his great-grand daughters(Ellen Marie Howell), was a Daughter of the American Revolution. Mr. Betterton was a paymaster of sorts for the then newly formed United States War Department, as most published info on him was requests for pay approval from them for misc. items and payroll, etc.
