    Description

    A scarce or rare Wake Island Bowling Center Continental cigarette lighter.  How ironic that this circa 1950’s lighter was
    made in Japan.
    In 1941 about 325 US Marines held off the Japanese military for 11 days before the heavy outnumbered defenders were over whelmed by the Japanese assault.  The Japanese garrison on Wake Island surrendered in 1945 at the end of World War II.  The lighter may be unused as the lighter wick
    appears unused.
    The US military took back control of Wake Island in 1945.
    The lighter has an image of Wake Island and states in part
    “WAKE ISLAND BOWLING CENTER,
    CONTINENTAL, JAPAN”
    The lighter is 1 ½ x 2 1/8 inches in size.  The lighter has a couple of tiny edge marks to the white edge and otherwise is in nice condition.
