Description
1939 censored airmail cover from Hamilton, Bermuda to New York, NY, USA. Since World War II (WWII) had commenced and since Bermuda was a British territory, it is not surprising that the envelope bears a Type CM 21 "Passed by Censor Bermuda" numeral (3). The cover has a cancellation clearly reading October 10, 1939 (Hamilton, Bermuda), and it is franked with one 3d and one 6d Bermuda stamps. The exhibition pane describes the cover quite well: "3d KGVI Pictorial, St. David's Lighthouse [SG 114] and 6d KGV Pictorial, Gardener's Cottage, Par-la-Ville, Hamilton [SG 104] stamps on cover with machine cancelled [MH6] Hamilton in black, with CM21 Censor #3 in green. Envelope measures 165 by 93 mm, with top flap."
The cover is in very sound condition. It is a Very Fine piece ready to enhance any collection of U.S., Bermuda, or WWII-era censored postal history.
