Description
1939 censored airmail cover from Bermuda to Brookline, MA, USA. The envelope has a flag logo and branding for the "Holland America Line," so it was probably used by someone on a cruise and send to a friend or loved one back in the USA. Since World War II (WWII) had commenced and since Bermuda was a British territory, it is not surprising that the envelope bears a Type CM 21 "Passed by Censor Bermuda" numeral (3). The cover has a cancellation clearly reading November 7, 1939 (Hamilton, Bermuda), and it is franked with one 1/- Bermuda stamp. The exhibition pane describes the cover quite well: "1s KVGI Pictorial, Grape Bay, Paget Parish [SG 123 line perf] stamp on cover with handstamp cancelled [H9] Hamilton in black, with CM21 Censor #3 in green. Envelope measures 160 by 105 mm, with top flap [Holland-America Line stationery]."
The cover is in very sound condition. It is a Very Fine piece ready to enhance any collection of U.S., Bermuda, or WWII-era censored postal history.
Another Extremely Fine Piece of Postal History!
